The end of the course

First I would like to say that at first I had many expectations about this subject. Because the way in which the teacher have managed the subject I found the most suitable.

I think this subject has been like a puzzle. Where at first we did not have much idea about the subject but over the weeks we have formed the concepts of the subject by we learned a lot.

From my point of view, I have very clear ideas and concepts which involved in the School Guidance and counselling.

On the other hand I really enjoyed giving presentations and watching the presentation of other students. Some of there were very funny.

The way in which  the teacher evalueated us, I found one of the most accurate of all I had. Because he does not have minded so much a note but he has focued more in the improvement of each student according to their capabilities and that has enriched me a lot.

I hope that you have a good summer teacher, you deserve it.

School guidance plan

Our last work is to develop a project which consist on a school guidance plan for a real school. The purspose was to obtain the concepts of counsellors. We had to read a summary that the teacher gaves us about what a school guidance plan in and what are the elements that we should describe.

  • THE SCHOOL GUIDANCE PROGRAMME
Guidance is provided through the school guidance programme. The guidance programme is the specific set of learning experiences which a school provides in response to the guidance needs of its students.

THE SCHOOL GUIDANCE PLAN

The school guidance plan the document in which the school explain the guidance programme which offer.

KEY ELEMENT OF THE SCHOOL GUIDANCE PLAN

The school guidance plan should address the following questions:

1. What does the school aim to provide through its guidance programme?
2. Who/which persons are the priorities for benefiting from the provision?

3. Which guidance outcomes are intended for the target groups?

4. How are these guidance outcomes to be achieved?

5. What resources are available to support these outcomes?

6. How does a school find out if the objectives have been achieved?

MY GROUP PRESENTATION
The member of my groups chose to do a different guidance plan because we have focus in a rural school which had a lot of difficulties.

The main difficulties were:

- The access.
-The large number of immigrants students.

-Mixed levels in classrooms.

The presentation of my groups is the next:

Moreover, other groups as my group had to do a presentation such as my presentation. Howerver, they have used another context.

CONCLUSION

I think that I learn a lot from the presentation of my peers because each of us have had different contexts for example a public school or a bilingual school with English and Greec. So I think that this presentations also help me in my knowledge about the guidance plan.
According to my presentation, we decided to a different context because we wanted to know more about rurals schools. And I think that the result is good but come people have not understand well the concepts. So now I know more about in what things we have to focus.
Moreover, a part from the guidance plane, I also learn a lot about doing presentations with another kind of tools which is not Power Point. Because in this case we have used Prezi. Besides, I learn how to synthesize, analize and think.
Finally, I think that this task help me a lot about guidance plan.

Attention to diversity

The next work consists in a groups work about diversity

Diversity in education means to understand and respect differences in each person and recognize themselves. This area encompasses several dimensions such as ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, race, ideologies and so on. This should provide a quality education addressing the needs, characteristics and abilities of students.

Each group had to their work in a specific group of people who needs specific measures. For doing it, we are going to think how we will give a class.
1. Special Education Needs provision within Mainstream Education (Students with specific need of ed. support).
2
Separate Special Education Needs provision in Early Childhood and SchoolEducation (Students with specific need of ed. support).
3.
Support Measures for learners in Early Childhood and School Education(Students in disadvantaged situation).

Exam about Groups of experts

Moreover, When we finished the activity Groups of experts. The teacher propused a type of exam. The exam consisted on different questions about the topic that we have seen in class. The exam was based in the following texts:
1. SPAIN: GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD.

From my point of view, I think that the correction of the exam was very good because each person had to correct their own exam. I learned differents things such as be critic with my answers and how to point the contents that I had aswered. Moreover, This is a productive activity in which the person can know what he or she know about the topic that I explain before and in which parts of the topics you have to improve.

Group of experts

We have done an activity called "Group of experts"

We divided into groups of four people. And each person had to read a text about a topic. Later he or she had to take notes about the text because he or she had to explain the text to the rest of the group. The aim was to focus in the Spanish context. The topics were:
1. SPAIN: GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD.
2.SPAIN: GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN HIGHER EDUCATION
3.SPAIN: GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN A LIFELONG LEARNING APPROACH.
4. SPAIN: SUPPORT MEASURES FOR LEARNERS IN ADULT EDUCATION AND TRAINING.
Then, We are going to focus in each topic.
1.SPAIN: GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD.

General approach:

What is it about? Fundamental intervention in order to improve education quality based on the principles of prevention, development and global intervention.

Who is it for? It is for all students, families and education professionals.

Who provides it? It is carried out by trained and prestigious professionals, such as tutors, teachers, counselors and in extreme situations social workers.  It depends on the specific needs of each student.

Main guidance functions:
-          Educative prevention and intervention (inclusion of new students, adaption to the school…)
-          Guidance and psycho-pedagogical counseling
-          Academic and professional guidance
-          Support the tutorial action plan.
-          Diagnose (evaluation for psycho pedagogic purposes.
-          Preparation and development of institutional documents.
-          Teaching (counselors basically in ESO also teach)

Organization in intervention levels:
-          Classroom level (mainly  carried out by teachers)
-          Direct intervention at schools (counselors are responsible for setting up prevention measures, diagnosis and intervention with students apart from some administrative work).
-          Specific intervention with schools (external support to the direct intervention).

Specific for Early Childhood:
-          Classroom level:  Developed by the teacher in order to ensure the pupil´s satisfactory integration in the group of classmates.
-          Direct intervention at schools:  predominance of guidance structures that are external to schools but provided within the schools.
-          Specific intervention with schools: Professionals that cooperate with counselors providing an extra help if and when need it.  Social workers, neuropediatrics, psychologists, speech trainers… could be examples of these professionals.

2.SPAIN: GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

In order to have a better conception of what Spanish guidance and counseling in high education is referring to, we are going to focus on the following issues:

-          Who receives school guidance and counseling.
-          Specific measures provided.
Financial aids for students.
Organizational options and alternative structures.
Specific measures for disabled students.
Specific programs for victims of terrorism and victims of gender-based violence.
-          Measures promoted by the statute of the university student.
-           Measures promoted by the Spanish Ministry of education.
-           Measures promoted by the Spanish Public Employment Service.

School guidance and counseling is directed to a specific target group which includes: Students with needs related to disability, highly gifted students, and economically disadvantaged students. Besides, special attention is paid to:  people with family responsibilities, victims of gender-based violence and victims of terrorism.

In order to guarantee that nobody is excluded from university because of economic reasons, some basics grants, aids and credits are provided. It includes: general grants and aids (Its awarding depending on the state and the Autonomous Communities). Special grants and aids (for specific academic achievement), graduation project grants (expenditure on academic material), grants for students with specific needs (to pay the needed activities in order to improve some kind of disability).

It is also proposed the existence of other basic structures apart from the assistance way of learning such as:  Distance learning at university, UNED (related with degrees), and the Center for innovation and development of distance education, CIDEAD, (linked with a training education).

For disabled students, apart from financial aids, universities carry out adaptations to access their curriculum, studies or installations and buildings. Its aim is to guarantee their access, entry, stay and exercise of academic degrees. Furthermore, for students who are victims of terrorism universities carry out personalized aid.

Besides of what it has been said, the Statute of the university student takes into account some ways for providing guidance and attention comprehensive activities for university students. For instance: tutorial systems (incorporating information, guidance and training support actions for students), tutorship (guidance and cross curricular monitoring on their degree) or units for attention to students (They provide psychological and health guidance).

The Ministry of Education is also interested in giving some basic tasks to ensure school guidance and counseling. Most of them are focused on academic issues like: flexibility to work and study, action plans for student’s participation in university life, aids to make easier the transition between pre-university levels and university environments…

Finally, Spanish Public Employment Service will help students at the end of their degrees in order to find and job by informing them about the existing training and professional choices.

3.SPAIN: GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING IN A LIFELONG LEARNING APPROACH

4.SPAIN: SUPPORT MEASURES FOR LEARNERS IN ADULT EDUCATION AND TRAINING.

School Guidance and couselling. Other presentations to other groups.

Presentation about what is school guidance and counselling

First of all, We did a presentation of this subject called School Guidance and Counselling. We had to do a presentation about who we are. And later we had to do an explanation about the question: What is school guidance and counselling?. But then, we did groups for developing a better definition putting in common differents points of view.
Secondly, the teacher taught that a good idea would be to develop a WebQuest where in groups we had to search in many resorces like internet about what we thought what it would be the guidance and the counselling in the School.
For instand, my group did a presentation in order to manage in a differnet way the following questions:
-What is school guidance counselling?
      -Are guidance and counselling synonyms?
      -Personal definition
-     - What are its functions? What are its main areas?
-Who receives the school guidance and counselling services?
-    - What services are provided in the school guidance and counselling programmes?
     -Who provides these services?
-When are the school guidance counselling services provided?
     -Where are they provided?

There is the Presentation  made by my group.
